I fell in to the real estate industry by total accident. I had arrived in America from Ireland in early 2003. I spent the first couple of months traveling and adventuring to different states while using Washington DC as my home base. When I realized how much I liked DC, I went looking for my first serious job. I found one as a Leasing Consultant for a very large luxury apartment community in Northwest Washington DC. I fell in love with it pretty much immediately. Within months I was the top performing leasing consultant in the company. I spent the next several years working my way up the ladder within the industry; ultimately managing thousands of luxury apartments around the DC area. I also got my real estate license in 2007 and started in the industry with a small (now closed) boutique real estate agency in Shepherdstown WV on a part time basis.
Having moved out to Charles Town West Virginia along the way, and enduring the commute from there to Georgetown for several years, I started to realize there seemed to be a bit of a gap in the market in the area where my expertise lay. Liz McDonald and I opened Blackwell in 2011 to try and service that need. As a Jefferson County resident, I have become involved in the community both as a businessman and a volunteer.
Now, as a Broker in both Virginia and West Virginia, I am proud of what has been built so far, but I am also excited to see what else can be built along the way. I look forward to expanding into Northern Virginia with the same dedication as the Eastern Panhandle.
